Not Doing Well…

Posted on

Well, my goal of finishing my new page for healthy foods for birds isn’t going well. Real life gets to you sometimes and it’s a bit hard to get things done when you are constantly busy. I’ll just have to try to squeeze it into my busy schedule, and set aside some more time for the birds because I haven’t been sticking to giving them a healthy diet lately.

This morning though I’ll be making them a really yummy meal which will probably include some new things they haven’t try before. I was planning on mixing in some hard-boiled eggs, but that idea quickly faded away as I realized there were no eggs left.

What I’m thinking of putting in are some frozen veggies (Corn, Peas, & Carrots), apples, pears, blackberries, green peppers, red peppers, and oranges. Then I will probably add in a teaspoon of Clay-Cal, some Wheat Germ and maybe some crushed oyster shells. It will all depend on what I have available though.

Eggs!

Out of those ingredients, they haven’t yet tried:

  • Corn
  • Peas
  • Pears
  • Blackberries
  • Oranges

Hopefully their curiosity will get the better of them and they will try out some of the new things I’ll be offering.

Some Goodies for the Birds

Posted on

Today I decided to make a nice and yummy combination for the birds to eat for dinner to see if they would like to have some. My idea actually worked! They dug right in like champs and stuffed their faces. What I made was a combination of baby spinach, apples, carrots and green peppers for wet food. Then there was another little mixture I made to add to it which contained cinnamon, wheat germ, some seeds, crushed oyster shell and some charcoal. After I mixed the wet food and rinsed it thoroughly I drained it well and mixed it with the dry mixture. I put some in the freezer to save for tomorrow, so they can have it for dinner once again. It has such a strong smell with the cinnamon and green pepper mix, I don’t know what to think of it!

On a side note: Rocky is still doing really good, he is outside more frequently now, and is still behaving very nicely indoors. I’m pretty sure that the new dog house is going to be built soon. Maybe tomorrow we will hear news about it. 🙂

Making Progress…

The most wonderful thing happened today, the budgies actually ate their veggies! I’m so happy, it didn’t even take that long. I forgot to post about the meal I prepared for them yesterday, but here it is:

Baby Spinach, Apples, Wheat Germ, and Seeds.

A Close-Up Shot

They started to pick at this at around 10:00 PM, and I found a bunch of bits of it on their cage floor the next morning. The must have had a blast with the mess they made!

Today I decided to try something different, so I ended up adding some red pepper to the mix.

Baby Spinach ready to be chopped up!
Chopped Apples mixed with Baby Spinach.
Some red pepper thawing out.
All chopped up.
Everything rinsed, mixed and ready for the dry ingredients.
With Wheat Germ and Seeds.

All ready to serve!

It smelled so delicious! Even when my nose was plugged from having a little cold, I could still smell the red pepper. Next time I should try some other ingredients with such great smells.

The birds actually ended up eating some, or at least digging through it. There was also some red pepper bits on the ground, so at least I know they were getting a bit of the taste. Maybe next time they will decide to eat more. 🙂 One can only hope!
